The main objective is to identify which patients are at risk of chronic ankle instability after sustaining an ankle sprain to improve treatment choices by implementing prognostic factors into a prediction model. Additionally we try to identify which surgical treatment provides the best outcomes in surgical stabilization of patients with chronic ankle instability by means of a randomized controlled trial. Together this will provide information on who is at risk of developing chronic complaints after an initial ankle sprain and should therefore be eligible for early surgical treatment and by means of which treatment they should be treated.
